Alberta Occupational Health and Safety is investigating after a contract worker died Wednesday at a work site in Redwater. A news release issued by Calgary-based Pembina Pipeline Corp., said the fatality occurred at 1:40 p.m. Wednesday at the Williams’ Redwater Olefinic Fractionator. Pembina said it will conduct a detailed investigation into the cause of the incident in conjunction with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety officials and relevant authorities. “The companies are deeply saddened by today’s tragedy and offer their sincere condolences and support to the affected family members through this difficult time,” Pembina said in a written statement. “Working safely is the top priority for both companies and all employees and contractors are encouraged to remain vigilant and to look out for everyone’s safety.” The name of the dead worker was not released. Redwater is about 60 km north of Edmonton. OHS is also investigating a workplace death at the Nova Chemicals PE1 expansion project site in Joffre. Blackfalds RCMP said a man was working on a crane when a piece of equipment swung and struck him.
